Mums on’t’Mic is a monthly, informal open mic session that’s made for mothers with little ones in mind. Held during the day, we’re naptime-friendly and pro-interruption, with no need to whatsapp the babysitter.
Every month, we invite our local community of mums to turn up, play music, recite poetry, read letters, perform prose, or just listen.
We also hold writing circles aimed at mums wanting to explore their experience of motherhood through the written word.

We hold our open mic events monthly, at a venue TBC, based in Huddersfield. Each month there’s a theme, with participants invited to respond.
We’re baby- and toddler-friendly (we’ll provide the toys and ear defenders, you bring the milk and carrot sticks), with little ones welcome on the mic, too. All we ask is that anything written and performed is suitable for mini ears to hear.
mothers’ writing circles
To complement our Mums on’t’Mic open mic sessions, we’ll be running a series of writing groups designed to help mums explore, express and expel their thoughts and feelings around motherhood.
No writing experience necessary - our circles are baby-friendly, held in a safe space, and open to mums of all ages and stages.
We welcome those who come to our circles to perform their writing at our open mic sessions - no pressure though, our events aren’t designed to be mutually exclusive!

I’m a writer based in Meltham, Huddersfield. I write marketing copy by day, and poetry, prose and songs by night.
I’ve been obsessed with music since I was old enough to press play on a cassette tape. I play the guitar but I’m not much of a singer - although if you give me a beer I’ll give Wonderwall a good go.
I’m also a mum. And since having my daughter I’ve become even more determined to keep my creative juices flowing, whilst exposing her to as much good writing and decent music as I can. We’ve not quite made the leap from Let it Go to Led Zep yet, but we’re making progress 🙌
Mums on’t’Mic is my passion project. Motherhood has opened me up in ways I never expected, and sometimes the only way to express those high highs and low lows is to put pen to paper. I’d love to build a platform for a community of mums to come together and pour their heart and soul into describing their experiences through song, poetry or prose.
